Was man nicht festhalten kann

Was man nicht festhalten kann

Sonnenblume

Sondern das, was darin möglich gewesen wäre.

Man möchte wissen, ob alles seinen Weg findet.

Man darf vermissen.

Und vielleicht darf man auch glauben, dass nicht alles, was still geworden ist, für immer verstummt.

What We Cannot Hold On To

Sometimes there are things we wish we could hold on to, even when we know they cannot stay.

A moment. A familiar sound. Something that was once so naturally there, and eventually finds its place only in memory.

Perhaps it is not even the past itself that we miss, but what might have been possible within it.

There are connections that do not simply dissolve because paths begin to change. And sometimes the silence between them grows wider, without the feeling itself becoming any smaller.

We want to know whether everything will find its way. Whether what we can no longer reach is, somehow, still held somewhere safe.

But not every question finds its way out.

Sometimes there are boundaries that do not come from a lack of closeness. And steps we cannot take, even when we wish we could.

Perhaps that is the hardest thing to understand: that we can miss something without being allowed to bring it back. That something can remain close in our thoughts while being unreachable in our lives.

Sometimes we do not know how the other person is doing. Whether everything has found its place. Whether the silence has become lighter, or whether it leaves behind something no one can see.

We cannot explain anything, change anything, or guide things in the right direction.

We can only hope that what we cannot reach will find its own way.

Letting go means understanding that we cannot preserve everything or control everything. That we can neither hold on to the past nor determine the future.

Some things remain without needing to be held on to. Some thoughts return without us having to follow them.

And sometimes it is hard to keep our hands still when our hearts still want to take a step.

That, too, is letting go.

Not because we no longer hope for anything.

But because we accept that not everything is ours to decide.

That we can miss something without asking for it back.

That we can worry without having answers.

Perhaps there are encounters that do not have to happen in the same place.

A recognition that needs no words. A familiar thought.

We do not know whether those paths will ever come together again.

But perhaps we do not need to know.

Perhaps it is enough not to let go of the possibility entirely.

Because some things that were once connected cannot simply be given an ending.

Something remains.

Not as a claim.

But as a quiet hope that, one day, paths may find each other again.

And until then, something is allowed to be missing.

We are allowed to remember.

We are allowed to miss someone.

And perhaps we are also allowed to believe that not everything that has grown quiet has fallen silent forever.
